Cala Bassa Beach Club

Cala Bassa is one of the best beaches on Ibiza's west coast on its own merits: a wide horseshoe of white sand backed by juniper and pine, with water that turns an improbable pale turquoise over the shallow sandy bottom and stays calm because the headlands take the swell. CBbC is the club that occupies most of it, and the scale is unusual. Rather than one restaurant it operates several distinct spaces, a central restaurant doing Mediterranean cooking with international touches, sushi, oysters and premium cuts, the Chiringo, which specialises in rice dishes and paella, and Portobello, which is Italian. Sunbeds and Balinese beds run along the sand under the trees, and there is live music and DJ programming through the season. Getting here is part of the appeal: water taxis link the bay with Sant Antoni from May to October, which is a far more pleasant approach than the road, and a seasonal bus runs from June to September. Entry to the beach itself is free and public, so you can use the sand without buying anything, but a reservation is worth having if you want a bed in a good position, since the front rows go early in July and August. The club runs from ten in the morning through to midnight.
