El Chiringuito

El Chiringuito sits on Es Cavallet, the long dune-backed beach inside the Ses Salines nature reserve on Ibiza's southern tip. The sand here is fine and pale, the beach is protected so there is no development behind it beyond the low scrub and salt flats, and Formentera sits on the horizon. The building is a whitewashed beach house rather than a club: bleached timber, white canvas, an open kitchen, and a deliberately unadorned look that has been widely imitated since. Food is the plain-good end of Mediterranean cooking - grilled fish, salads, fresh juices - served across breakfast, lunch and dessert menus, with a proper kids' menu and a separate fenced kids' garden known as the little chiringuito, which makes it one of the more genuinely family-workable options on this stretch of coast. The beach service runs sunbeds and daybeds in front, but these cannot be booked online: reservations for beds are taken by telephone only, within a set daytime window, and in high season they go well in advance. The venue is seasonal and closes over winter. Es Cavallet faces east, so mornings here are bright and the evening light falls behind the dunes.
