Frontemare

Siculiana Marina is a small seaside village on the Agrigento coast, and Frontemare occupies the Lungomare there as a hybrid rather than a single-purpose venue: a fish restaurant, a bistro, a gelateria, a wine bar and an equipped beach section, all under one operation. The beach side is deliberately unelaborate, loungers and umbrellas with attentive service and not much else, which suits a stretch of coast that has stayed low-rise and local. The centre of gravity is the food. The kitchen is built around fresh seafood in the Mediterranean tradition, running from raw fish preparations through mixed grills to pasta dishes, with a curated wine list behind it. The other half of the appeal is the veranda over the water, used for an aperitivo of cocktails and gourmet sharing boards timed to the sunset, which on this west-facing part of the Agrigento shore is the reason to still be there at eight in the evening. It is closed on Mondays and otherwise runs from nine in the morning to midnight, so a single visit can reasonably cover the beach, lunch, a gelato and dinner without moving.
