Lido Aquarius

Lido Aquarius has worked this stretch of the Aci Castello shore since 1974, and the setting explains its layout. There is no sand here: the coast between Catania and Aci Castello is black lava rock, so the club is built as a solarium, a terraced sun deck stepping down to ladders and platforms that drop straight into deep, clear water. The view runs out to the Isole Ciclopi, the basalt stacks off Aci Trezza. It is a large, multi-generational operation rather than a boutique one. Alongside the solarium there is a children's pool area signposted Bambinopoli, a sports zone, a restaurant and pizzeria, a bar, cabins, hot showers and a proper car park, plus incidental services you rarely find at a lido, including a hairdresser, a tobacconist and a bazaar. Courses run through the season in stand-up paddle, canoeing, beach volleyball, spinning and diving. The kitchen mixes Catanese cooking with newer dishes, and the pizzeria is a fixture for families staying into the afternoon.
