Horcynus Orca Lido

Horcynus Orca Lido occupies the very tip of Sicily at Capo Peloro, the point where the Strait of Messina opens into the Tyrrhenian and Calabria sits close enough across the water to pick out individual buildings. The lido shares its name and its site with the Horcynus Orca cultural park inside the old fort, which gives the place an unusual character for a beach club: it runs as much as a community project as a commercial concession. Beach access itself is free, and you pay only for equipment. Pitches are unusually generous, each laid out over more than ten square metres, so the umbrella lines never feel stacked on top of one another. Accessibility is treated seriously rather than mentioned in passing: ramps admit wheelchairs and pushchairs, and both Job and Solemare beach wheelchairs are kept on site for getting into the water. Families are the core audience. There is a fenced play area with certified equipment, staffed activities, and a children's theatre programme on Sunday afternoons. Food and drink service runs the full arc of the day, from breakfast through lunch to an evening aperitivo, and showers, toilets and changing rooms are all on site. Rates and season dates are not published; the lido handles bookings by phone and email.
